Last night theTelluride Rentals’ team was lucky enough to take up a dinner invitation from the new owners of the Alta Lakes Observatory. Matt and Anna, our wonderful hosts, invited us for drinks and dinner at their stunning, iconic lakeside retreat. As vacation rental specialists, it is always refreshing to be reminded of the incredible offerings we have in the Telluride area. This is a really special place and definitely a worthwhile visit if you are coming to Telluride this summer…We bumped along the old mining road, past the historic Alta mine to the Observatory which is perched at at 11,300 feet, in the shadows of 13,000 foot Palmyra Peak, the highest point of the Telluride Ski Resort. The Observatory sits right on Alta Lakes and looks directly at the back side of the ski resort (if you have ever enjoyed Telluride’s ‘hike-to’ terrain on Black Iron Bowl you may have noticed the Observatory tucked in beneath the shadows of the ridge). The Observatory has a brand new gourmet kitchen and bathroom, a real wood burning fireplace, three sleeping areas, a hot tub and a sauna.
What I loved most about the new improvements is that the classic western character of the building has not been overwhelmed by the new additions – the luxurious new kitchen and bathroom are not out-of-place alongside the original, rustic elements of the cabin.
Telluride Rentals would like to help make this wonderfully unique experience available to our guests. Whether you would like to hike in and stay the night, or ski down and have a fully catered lunch or dinner, we can work with Matt and Anna to make your visit to the Alta Lakes Observatory a tailor-made experience. We can arrange hiking, biking & skiing guides to make your Alta Lakes Observatory adventure an extra special experience for your family and friends. There are canoes and kayaks on the lake for guests to enjoy during the summer, and snow mobiles for more action packed adventure during the winter. The Observatory is also available for weddings and special events.
