Head to the Holiday Prelude
On the weekend of Dec. 16, Mountain Village is hosting the Holiday Prelude, which immerses you in the enchanting atmosphere of Santa’s North Pole. You can visit Santa’s workshop, take photos with actual reindeer, and participate in a Heritage Plaza tree-lighting ceremony that includes caroling. The Telluride Figure Skating Club plans to put on a performance that will be followed by a skating party open to all visitors. Mountain Village shops will hand out treats for children and offer discounts on a variety of purchases, making the Holiday Prelude a great opportunity to buy gifts for your loved ones. It’s also worth noting that you can visit Mountain Village through a free trip on the Telluride Gondola, which gives you spectacular views of the San Juan Mountains.
Go on an Outdoor Adventure
Telluride is famous for its outdoor winter activities. Even if you don’t have much experience with winter sports, you and your family can still have plenty of fun in and around town.
Sledding: Sledding on Firecracker Hill in Town Park is a popular activity for tourists and locals. Ice skating. Town Park is home to both an outdoor and an indoor rink. The Telluride Nordic Center offers rentals for skates and sleds.
Dog sledding: A team of Alaskan huskies from Wintermoon Sled Dog Adventures will take you on a tour of Uncompahgre and San Juan National Forests.

Explore the Telluride Arts Scene
From Dec. 1 through Dec. 3, the Telluride Holiday Arts Bazaar will display paintings, sculptures, jewelry, crafts, and other creations from local artists and artisans. For example, you can catch a Winter Sing performance from the Telluride Choral Society or attend the Rock and Roll Academy Winter Concert at the Sheridan Opera House. Known for its fresh bread, pizza, and mouth-watering desserts, this restaurant showcases work from students who have taken classes at the AH HAA School for the Arts.
Take Delight in Noel Night
This year, Noel Night is on Dec. 6. If you’re visiting Telluride on that date, prepare for holiday festivities and tons of shopping. A tree-lighting ceremony takes place at Elks Park, and businesses around town give you hours of discounts and opportunities to savor delicious food and drinks.
