February is prime time for the perfect skiing experience in gorgeous Telluride, Colorado, and many people are headed to the area this weekend to include all of the excellent available winter activities in their Valentine's Day celebration. As a fantastic added bonus, visitors also have the opportunity to enjoy one of Telluride's most popular festivals over the next few days.
It's Time for the Comedy Festival
As popular as Telluride is for its winter skiing, the area is every bit as famous for its amazing summer festivals. Fortunately, festival enthusiasts who love to laugh don't have to wait until summer for the 17th annual Telluride Comedy Festival.
When and Where
This immensely popular, world-class event has been scheduled to begin on Thursday, Feb. 11, at 8 p.m., at the historic Sheridan Opera House, which is located at 110 North Oak Street in Telluride. The show will continue to run at the same time each evening through Sunday, Feb. 14. One extra late-night show will begin at 11 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 12.
What to Expect
An evening of laughter is absolutely guaranteed, and you can plan to attend more than one performance because each one will be different. A wonderful array of talented comedians will have you doubled over and laughing hard enough to bring tears to your eyes, and you can expect an excellent variety of stand-up comedy, improvisational comedy and some truly fun sketch comedy. You shouldn't be surprised if some of the comedians make you a part of the show, and it's always in the spirit of good fun.
Telluride's own Jeb Berrier, a successful comedian, actor and director who is now based in Portland, Oregon, will bring his own style of comedy as host of the entire festival. When he's done making you laugh, he'll introduce you to the 10 brilliant comedians who are scheduled to perform at this year's festival. There are always a few surprise guests who turn up each year as well, so you never know who may perform next. Here are a few of the performers that you'll definitely be seeing along with a mention of some of their past comedic work.
- Jon Daly (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Parks and Recreation)
- Ian Edwards (HBO’s Bad Boys of Comedy, Conan O’Brien)
- Brent Weinbach (Comedians of Comedy)
- Rob Huebel (Reno 911, Comedy Bang Bang)
- Jason Mantzoukas (Drunk History, Parks and Recreation)
- Adam Pally (Mindy Project, UCB Comedy)
- Gil Ozeri (Happy Endings, Brooklyn Nine-Nine)
- Claire Mulaney (Saturday Night Live writer)
- Andrew Michaan (Riot LA comedy festivals)
- Lily Sullivan (Second City Touring Company)
It's not too late to get your tickets and great seats for this year's festival. Prices range from $30 to $125, and the more expensive tickets offer VIP cocktail tables that are positioned at the very front of the theater. You'll be able to see your favorite comedians right up close, and this almost guarantees that you'll be incorporated into the comedy routine in some fashion.
