Town Park in Telluride

Telluride Town Park

If ever you wanted to find a mecca where there is so much to do in one single park, the Town Park in Telluride, Colorado can’t be beat.  Nestled on the site of a former silver mining camp, the town skirts the San Miguel River in the western San Juan Mountains, and Telluride Town Park is smack dab in the middle.

Located within easy walking distance from top-notch restaurants, the park offers a multitude of activities during every season of the year. Come and join the locals and play for a day or two!

While the centers of many towns are commerce-focused, downtown Telluride can be proud of its huge amount of open space dedicated to outdoor activities.  One reason for this is the amazing climate. Colorado boasts an incredible number of sunny days, tempting residents and visitors alike to spend tons of time outdoors.  While the blue skies and mountain backdrop are beckoning, it’s hard to stay indoors!

In the blush of summer, the park boasts many sports activities.  Take the kids and hit some balls on either of the two tennis courts, or challenge your friends in a competitive adult match.  In the very center of Town Park is an outdoor basketball court.  It’s easy to obtain a basketball at the Parks and Recreation Office in Town Park.  If you enjoy disc golf, you will love the nine-hole primitive course which winds around the perimeter of the park, and uses natural objects as targets. Additionally, there are two outdoor sand volley ball courts, which offer open and pick-up games during the summer.  Have you ever pitched horseshoes?  This colonial game is loads of fun and a lot harder to win than you might think!  Try either of the horse shoe pits located near the swimming pool in Telluride Town Park.
Kid-Friendly Park

The heated swimming pool is open from mid-June until the end of August every summer.  Admissions range from $2.50 for children to $5.00 per adult.  Its clear sparkling water dares you to resist diving in after a long day of hiking in the mountains or shopping downtown.

Your kids will love the Kid’s Fishing Pond with its four trout limit.  You can check out fishing rods for no charge at the Information Center, so there’s no need to bring your own.  There is also the Imagination Station Playground which is located between the Hanley Rink Pavilion and home plate of Bear Creek Field.  For smaller visitors, the Toddler Park features a climbing wall for children age 5 and up.

The Park also offers an amazing skateboarding and trick bike facility, which is open daily, as well as the Bicycle pump track.  Even if you don’t ride, it’s fun to sit back and watch while local kids show off their tricks!
